We met in April 2020 in the midst of a lockdown where we discovered that we were a perfect match. On our first date, we set up a picnic in Toronto’s High Park and enjoyed some drinks and played a game of bocce ball. We spoke openly about our values and hopes for the future, which included starting a family and raising children. Five years later, we are happily married (we tied the knot in Mexico in November 2024), live in Toronto’s Leaside neighbourhood, and are so excited to start a family!

Rodney grew up in Mississauga with his older brother and sister and was raised by Caribbean parents who immigrated to Canada in the 1970s. Michael was born and raised in midtown Toronto alongside his two older sisters and is also the child of two immigrant parents who are descendents of Holocaust survivors and moved to Canada in the 1960s. We both come from tight knit families and have always valued tradition and maintaining close relationships with them. We also value diversity and are grateful to be in a biracial and interfaith relationship. We love that we are able to celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah, Easter and Passover, and we have learned so much about each other’s cultures. We love spending time with our six nieces and nephews, especially when it involves playing Mario Party on the Nintendo Switch.

We started our surrogacy journey in the spring of 2024 and were incredibly fortunate to find and work with a wonderful biracial egg donor who is biracial. It was important to find a donor who embodied both of our backgrounds. Together, we created a total of seven, PGT-A tested embryos. These embryos are currently safely frozen and stored at the Anova Fertility Clinic in Toronto, ready for the next exciting step in building our family.

We live in Toronto’s Leaside neighbourhood and hope to set long-term roots here as we raise children. Leaside offers the perfect balance for us. It has a safe, welcoming, suburban feel with tree-lined streets and beautiful parks, while still being just a short drive away from the vibrant downtown core. We are grateful to live close to Michael’s childhood home and his parents, as well as one of his sisters and her family. Many of our close friends, who are also raising young children, happen to live nearby as well.

Michael is a psychiatrist with a hospital-based practice in Scarborough, and Rodney is a high school science teacher who works in North York. We are a fun-loving, adventurous and creative couple. We are huge reality TV show nerds and like to unwind after work by watching shows such as Survivor and The Amazing Race. We also love the outdoors and go camping every summer. We are fortunate to have travelled to many different countries both individually and as a couple, and we hope to share these experiences with our kids and go on family trips together. We also share a passion for the performing arts; Rodney regularly participates in community theatre, and Michael loves to sing and is a part of a gospel/R&B choir in Toronto.

We recognize the generosity and altruism that it takes to be a surrogate and intend to do everything we can to support them. We will not take this gift for granted and will ensure that you feel valued and cared for both emotionally and financially. We will cover all health care and legal costs and plan to be consistently available as a friend and confidante.

We plan to be in regular contact with our surrogate both during and after the pregnancy and hope to build a close connection based on trust, open communication, and mutual understanding. We want you to feel supported every step of the way and to know that we are there to help navigate any roadblocks or challenges along the way.
