We’re Chris and Alvin – partners who met through friends in 2019 and quickly realized that we both wanted a family – It was over milkshakes and burgers during our first date that it became clear that having a family is important and meaningful to the both of us. Six years later, we have settled comfortably into our new home in Calgary, with our cuddly rescue dog (Jeffrey), and the best part of our lives; our daughter, Avery, who was born in August 2024.

Alvin describes Chris as thoughtful, caring and supportive, while Chris describes Alvin as fun-loving, optimistic, and a big kid at heart. After 13 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, Alvin now works for a pipeline company in supply chain. Chris works as an HR Manager for an energy company.

We are currently working with CReATe Fertility Centre where we have 7 frozen PGS tested embryos.

Both Chris and Alvin moved to Canada in their teens – Chris from England, and Alvin from the Philippines. Chris has lived in Calgary as well as Cape Breton, Nova Scotia – while Alvin has lived in Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary.

Chris is an only child and has a very close relationship with his parents (who live about 11 houses down the street from us!) and spend a lot of time with Avery. Alvin has six younger siblings who he has helped raise into wonderful, kind children and young adults and who love spending time with their niece.

Family is very important for both of us – and we spend a lot of time with our families.

We began our first journey in 2022 and were blessed to be able to work with an amazing egg donor (who is part Filipino, part British – representing us!) who helped us create embryos with both Chris and Alvin’s sperm. After we used Chris’ sperm for the embryo that became Avery, and we have 7 frozen PGS tested embryos using Alvin’s sperm at Create fertility clinic in Toronto.

We live in a new community in southwest Calgary in a new house that we helped design. We are incredibly fortunate to have a large backyard that backs onto a park area with a pond and have a spare bedroom setup and ready for our future baby 🙂 There is a playground a 2-minute walk down the street – as is Chris’ parent’s house! We are really excited that the community is very child-friendly and has lots of young families in it for our children to make friends with.

We like to go for walks when it’s nice out and to take advantage of our annual zoo passes. Our evenings are largely spent cuddling and playing with Avery with weekends involving having friends over or a quiet movie night.

We will support you in whatever way you prefer – we will of course cover all costs and expenses – but are here to help in any way that we possibly can. We know that this is a monumental thing for you to do and want to be here to support you.

With our first surrogate, we had a WhatsApp group chat with the three of us (Surrogate, Chris, Alvin) that we used to keep in touch. We found this worked really well to talk about anything to do with the pregnancy – or any topic at all! We were incredibly fortunate to become friends with her as a result of this, and with her also being in Calgary, we were able to meet up and hang out, as well as go to appointments with her. And so, if a group chat where we messaged as much as you’d like would work for you – that would work for us too!

Becoming parents to our amazing daughter, Avery, has been the most incredible and amazing experience of our lives. Every day we reflect on how lucky we are, and we would love nothing more than to give her a sibling to grow up with. Our home is full of laughs , dance parties, grandparent visits, and most importantly, love. We’re so excited to continue growing our family with the help of someone as special as you.
